What you will learn
Module 1
Why communication costs deals
Most export deals that fail do not end with an argument. They fade out after a message that read differently on the other side, and this module shows you where that happens, why it costs real money and how to start seeing your messages the way your partner sees them.
Module 2
High-context and low-context communication
Some business cultures put most of the meaning in the words, while others put much of it in the relationship, the setting and what is left unsaid. This module gives you a simple framework for that difference, shows where your own habits sit, and teaches you to adjust your messages without losing your voice or your position.
Module 3
Reading indirect signals
In many West African business settings, people signal hesitation, disagreement or "not yet" without saying no outright. This module shows you how to read those signals, what silence and delay may mean, and how to ask questions that make an honest answer easy.
Module 4
Relationships, titles and hierarchy
In many Nigerian and West African business settings, who you are speaking to, and how you address them, shapes how your message is received. This module shows you how to use titles well, find the real decision makers, and build enough trust that your terms get a fair hearing.
Module 5
Building trust remotely
Most U.S. SMEs cannot visit a partner in Lagos or Abuja every quarter, so trust has to be built through phones, screens and written messages. This module shows you how to choose the right channel, run a video meeting that works for everyone, and use the written recap to keep both sides aligned.
Module 6
Recovering from a misunderstanding
Even well-prepared exporters will sometimes misread a signal, send the wrong tone or miss a deadline. This module shows you how to notice trouble early, write a repair message that restores goodwill, and follow through so that the relationship ends up stronger than before.
