For Counselors

Communicating with Partners in Nigeria

Length: 90 minutes

This kit lets you run a 90-minute workshop called "Communicating with Partners in Nigeria" for the businesses you serve. It is written for SBDC advisors, District Export Councils, state trade offices, trade associations and chambers, and for educators and trainers in international business programs. You do not need to be an expert on Nigeria to run it. The facilitator guide tells you what to cover, what to ask and how to handle the hard questions.

Everything in the kit is free to use, adapt and share under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). You may add your logo, cut slides or translate the materials. Keep the attribution line on the slides, handout and certificate:

"From DealDialect (dealdialect.com) by Ayomide Adeyeye, licensed CC BY 4.0." If you change the materials, add: "Adapted by" followed by the name of your organization.

The kit teaches communication habits. It is not legal, tax or compliance advice. When a question touches contracts, payments law, sanctions or anti-bribery rules, tell participants to consult qualified counsel.

Kit contents

  • Start Here

One page: what is in the kit, the agenda, the license and the attribution line, and the link to report your session.

  • Facilitator Guide

Preparation checklist, room setup, the full session script by segment, timing tips, and answers to tough questions. The .docx version is editable.

  • Slides

About 30 slides in the DealDialect brand, with speaker notes. Slide 1 names the author as facilitator, and slide 30 carries a QR code to the survey at dealdialect.com/feedback. Hosts may add their own logo.

  • Participant Handout

Two pages, printable in black and white: key ideas, a five-phrase rewrite exercise, scenario cards S1 and S2, the digital trust checklist and resources.

  • Scenario Cards

Scenarios S1 and S2 as cut-out cards for small groups. Feedback is on a separate facilitator sheet so groups decide before they see it.

  • Pair Exercise

The cold email to rewrite, instructions, and a model answer for the facilitator to reveal at the debrief.

  • Nigeria Quick Card

The two-page quick card from the Nigeria Market Communication Guide: 10 do's, 10 watch-outs, 8 phrases and a pre-meeting checklist.

  • Survey Paper

The 8-question post-session survey on paper, plus a QR code image and short link to the same survey online. Includes an optional one-question arrival card.

  • Attendance Sheet

Sign-in sheet with consent column. Stays with your organization.

  • Certificate Template

Certificate of attendance with fields for name, date, host organization and facilitator.

  • License

The full CC BY 4.0 notice and attribution wording.

Post-session survey

The survey takes about 3 minutes. It feeds the Reaction level of DealDialect's impact measurement (Section 11) and lets us invite consenting participants to the 3-month follow-up survey. Answers are anonymous unless the participant chooses to give an email in question 8.

  • QR and short link: the kit includes a QR code that opens the online survey with this kit and your session pre-selected. Before the session, add your session date in the kit page to generate a session-specific QR code and short link (general link: dealdialect.com/feedback; session links add a session code, for example dealdialect.com/feedback/NC-0412). Show it on slide 30 and print it on the paper survey.
  • Paper: print one survey per participant (07_Survey_Paper.pdf). Collect forms at the door. Within one week, enter each paper form at the same short link, one entry per form, so all responses are counted the same way.
  • Optional arrival card: if you want a true before-and-after measure, ask people to answer question 3 on the arrival card when they sign in. Staple it to their post-session form or enter both together.
  • Privacy: store paper forms securely and destroy them once entered, following your organization's records policy. Never enter an email unless the participant ticked "Yes" on question 8.
  • Online sessions: paste the short link in the chat at minute 80 and again at the close. Keep the room open for 3 minutes so people can finish.

Reporting your session

Please tell us you ran the kit. It takes about two minutes and it helps us show funders and partners that this work matters. Reported sessions count toward the public "workshops delivered" and "counselors trained" counters on the Impact page.

Do not upload the attendance sheet or participant names. We only need counts. If you adapted the kit, we would love to see your version: share it through the comments field, and we may feature it with credit.
